now that i think of it maybe it would be nice to have an answer about that from the people that review the drive in cdrinfo.....of whether the drive behaved in that way during their tests.............

I believe that's how it is supposed to be. It's the way the AOPC technology from NEC works, constantly adjusting the burn speed as the burn progresses.

Not that I like it at all. Personally, I prefer WOPC technology which doesn't make the device buffer so jumpy in comparison and it doesn't do those momentary few sceond freezes (which the NEC does).

Please explain more in details.

AFAIK ACTOPC monitors the sensitivity of the media and adjusts the laser strength to achieve the best possible results.
Do you say this function effects buffer?
