I just purchased the new Lite-On 52x24x52x and I am having a lot of trouble with it. I am getting blue screens and restarts when I write a CD. I have managed to do one CD copy, but everything else has made the computer crash. [|)]

After searching and reading this great forum, I just installed the Adaptec ASPI drivers for XP/NT (4.60). I also reinstalled the bundled Nero 5.5. The blue screen message has now changed from an ASPI error to another one:

BAD_POOL_CALLER
STOP: 0X000000C2
(0X00000002, 0XFF0F0I5020, 0XFF0F5000, 0X815EC908)

This system has just had a fresh WinXP install. The only thing that may be a clue that I can tell is the driver associated for the Lite-On. WinXP is saying it's a 52x24x46, which seems odd.. I cannot find a 52x24x52 driver to load in. Anyway, I'm not sure if this is anything to worry about or not.

TIA for any help.

Specs:
Lite-On 52x24x52
WinXP Pro
Athlon 900mhz
256MB SDRAM
1st Mainboard - AZ11E
WinFast A170 DDR w/ geforce 4 (updated drivers)

Just an update - since I have installed the Lite-On, I have been getting a critical system error when I start up the computer. After I've been prompted whether or not to send the error report, everything seems stable.. well everything except cd writing. [B)]

I think I have the solution you need:

Make full reinstall of windows and then use the latest nero burning rom, install sp1 too and don't install the aspi updated, if this fails... check your warranty.

I have a fresh install of windows, latest nero (5.5) that came bundled with this writer, and have SP1 installed.

Why would I not want to install the ASPI layer? Or do you mean do not install an ASPI version after 4.60(stable)?
I did not have the ASPI layer installed when I originally tryed it, and I still received blue screeens.

Just an update... I now believe the drive may be faulty.

My PC crashed when I was trying to read (I hadn't really tried to read extensively). Yesterday, I tryed to install a game and it crashed during installation (same sort of crash). Does this point toward a hardware fault? Anyone?

Ive had the same problem. I just reinstalled XP PRO for the third time and also installed SP1. Installed Nero that came with the lite-on 52xRW ( i may have installed this before SP1) also updated the APSI to ver. 4.7( or close to it)
I tried to burn a data cd of 300 mg on a CDRW disc and the system "crashed" and restarted. I got through maybe 30 percent burning. Ive had the same problems listed here. HELP!!

IS APSI 4.7 bad to use with XP Pro? What version is best to use?

AMD 1 gig thunderbird
Abit kt7a
512 Ram
40 gig HD
Lite-on 52x42x52

Interesting. I have a new Lite-On 52x burner running Win2K. It burns and works for me most of the time, but something about it just seems "less" stable. I have problems with EAC and if I try to burn with EAC, it'll freeze my PC during the write process where a warm reset won't even work!

If I use Nero and Alcohol, all is well. But as I said, I can't put my finger on it, but something about this drive is not quite ripe.

I didnt mention this, but i have burned about 4 successful cds with about 8 coasters.
This may or may not matter, but my system is used as a "server" to share our cable connection with my sons computer ( set up with the internet connection sharing as a home network) His comp is Win 98 SE. I notice the box and website both say Win XP, no server. Could this have effect with it? [}:)]

If so, has any one heard of any issues with the TDK Velo-CD 48x or 52x burners and XP PRO as a server?? Compusa has the 48x for 39.99 after rebates. [?]

P.S. Its too bad Mediacomm doesnt offer Newsgroups as ATT did.

Just an update of the situation. I RMAed the CD writer and sent it back to the manufacturer.

David, Had a Similar problem with a Ltr-48125W. I know it was not Windows, as it was just a Liteon Upgrade from a Ltr-24102B. Nothing else was Changed. It would Only get a Blue Screen when I tried to Read any CD.The reason I did not pick up in the 14 Day (Dead on Arrival warranty Period)......was that I had installed the Drive and went away for a week and Came back and Computer would not Start Up...No power...Case power Supply had Failed. So I did as you did and sent it back. LiteOn seems to have let their Quality Control slip. As for their after sales service.. Don't bother trying to get any help from them at their web page.
Cheers

Just updating this thread in case anyone else has similar problems as I did.

As of today, this now seems to be resolved:

I received a replacement, it was tested and was faulty. However I received a new one and was giving the exact same errors. I tried a new ide cable, updated the firmware of the writer, updated nero, etc etc.
I tried a different ide channel from my mobo. I connected the writer to the ide of my hdd (primary slave) and it now seems to be working.

Strange...[V]
So please, now it works fine in the slave position but did not work as a master?

How is its performance at 52x? I'd expect it to be a burden for the hard disk.

I tried it on the secondary master and slave which didn't work.
But changed it to the primary slave (same ide as hdd) and it worked.

I can only assume it's something with my mobo?

I burned 581 meg iso image in about 2 mins and 10 seconds from the hdd. It did not seem to have a problem but then I didn't multitask either.

When connecting the burner to the secondary IDE, was there another device? Jumper setting was correct for sure?

Have you tried any other device (say, a HD) on the secondary channel? If a HD doesn't work then the MB is ill...

Your burning time is pretty good! Multitasking is no a big deal.
