PS: The Nec3500 2.07 firmware contains support for Ritek and Philips DL media, right? But what about the Nec 2510? Do you think it will ever be released with support for those two types of media?

DVD+R DL version seems the only difference.

Do you know if TDK is a NEC OEM? If so that would explain the same "no SL bitsetting support" ;)

My shop is getting nervous, since they recieved my ordered the NEC3500 already but I still want to wait for the review here before I grab it.

Sorry to bother you, but does "a little time more" mean, I 'd better cancel my reservation or just delay it a few days (because of sudden illness)

i just tested RITEK DL media with the 2.07 firmware, and IT IS NOT SUPPORTED... I get the same errors like 2510A. The drive is supporting only 1X writing speed, and is trying to start burning at 1X, giving errors at lead in (no coaster though)...

Not so soon, since there is other hardware that need posting... Thursday or Friday i think... Not 100% sure though...

Of course, you can always post any question concerning 3500A, since all tests are finished...

You might get a small "taste" of the 3500 review even before the posting date... the TDK 1616N might come first ...

so...all the NEC3500 tests are finished, eh? ok...i have a few questions if you please:

1. is there any way to remove the 'rip-lock' (without using unoffical firmwire if possible)?
2. would you say it is better then the pioneer 108?
3. does it support bitsetting?

Ok, for your answers:

1. There is no rip-lock in 3500A since it can read at 16X maximum speed with no problem...

2. Wait for the review for a comparison... for now, i can only say that NEC is surely faster, because of the CLV writing strategy the Pioneer uses...

3. Official firmwares allow only DL media booktype changes...

No Problem at all

BTW I meant CMC (Philips), so there isn't any support to it, right?

Regarding Ritek DL support, is it true what "kogos" is saying? Meaning no Ritek DL support yet
