Windows users who install Service Pack 2 should first scan their systems and remove any spyware, according to a Microsoft Executive. Quoting a group product manager, Barry Goff, Associated Press is saying that some computers might lock up when SP2 is installed. It is said that certain spyware already resident on the machine might interfere with the new security features. Microsoft has not issued a formal statement on what kind of spyware might lock up the computer or what kind of activity might be affected. Spyware is a loose term which covers a range of behaviour addressed by SP2 ranging from pop-up blocking to the firewall preventing unauthorised data transmissions. There are a range of antispyware programs available on the internet. Among the most popular are Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware.
