I have a 718mb DivX file... how can I burn it into a cd ? (I have 650 or 700)...

If you use Nero you can over burn it. go to preferences:Expert settings: then click "enable overburn", and set the maximum allowed overburn to 100:59:74. caution - Do not try to burn too much extra onto a CD-R. Only 90min and 99min CD-Rs are "made" for overburning.

the most i've ever done on a regular 700/80 CD is 714MB on my trusty old yamaha 4416 : ).

my aopen 1232 can only do 708MB on the same CDRs :-(.

if you don't have any luck, you can use aviutil, virtualdub (both freeware), or whatever to shave some frames from the movie without re-encoding it.

Yeah, it would REALLY be harsh to have to re-encode the file over 4-10MB!

I don't think i'll ever overburn...
I don't want to smash my yamaha cdr-rw drive for just couple of xtra mb's...

Yamaha's are one of the best overburning drives there are! what do you mean by "smashing"??

i've been overburning not long after i bought my first writer and that yamaha 4416 still works reliably. probably had it for four years.

that warning in nero is just for their own protection more than anything else. i'm sure it is possible to damage your drive if you try to make it do something crazy but i wouldn't worry too much about it.

No overburning will not cause any harm to your writer...

First check if your drive supports overburning (www.fuerio.com)?

If it does, you should have no problem. Beware however, that overburnt discs *can* cause errors at the end of the track (depends on disc, size of file). Nero will report the disc as "burnt successfully", make sure you run some data verification before you go deleting your 713 mb DivX off the hard drive.

Yep, Don't worry Jojo, there have never been any recorded cases of a CD-Writer being damaged by overburning

People just want to cover their backs. They could also say that over burning a CD *may* cause the CD Writer to attack you in your sleep, but it doesn't make it any more likely in happening [:p]

The only thing you have to worry about is making sure the CD doesn't have corrupt data at the end of the session. Nero CD Speed is probably the best CD quality checker you can use to test the burn. You can find it in the Nero Tool Kit.

The only other option to over burning is make the file smaller, you can trim out credits, ot re-encode it, or cut into half and put it on two CDs (though that one isn't the greatest choice for space management!)

you don't need to !! you can just cut the end. that takes only the time of copying the file without the part you cutted

This is the furthest I've made with my Arita brand CDR.
716MB of data on 700MB/80min CDR at 16x

This is the Scandisc result using Nero CD Speed 1.02
Good (Green) = 99.80%
Damaged (Yellow) = 0.20%
Unreadable (Red) = 0.00%

There are multiple files though, so I can take the risk of having the last file spoil. I wouldnt recommend you to overburn it at 16x, try 8x or 4x. :)

Extend your CD using Mode 2 write

Or get a 90 minute CD - the easy answer!

matthew: what software do you use to do a mode 2 (form 2) CD-R? mode 2 form 1 is easy, but I've yet to see a mode 2 form 2 authoring tool

Doom9 also have a fairly readable guide - note that content CAN be placed in Form 1 (error corrected) or Form 2 (extra capacity) areas - and the uncorrected content, for usability, really needs to be error-tolerant.

Thanks Matthew! I've been looking for a way to do this for a long LONG time now! I'm glad someone put something together to take advantage of mode 2....

now imagine a mode 2 99min CD-R....MUHAHAHAHA [}:)]
