Ok. readed this topic forward and backward but found no real conclusion at the end (except that new firmware would be a real nice thing to happend ;=) )

What happend with the "last" post regarding NO or drasticly less problems with the latest drives( suspect on HD problem before on eary seria ??)

Didn t realy want to reply to topic with pro et contra text, but at the end of ends i have to ask,... is this drive now worth of buying or should we stay away from it and go for DRU.

saso, I'd put it this way: Don't you pay a lot of money for a drive that's capable to record at 4x, but, under the current situation, this very drive is recording the most media of the market @ 1x or -at it's best- @ 2x...? I'd like to ask another question: Wouldn't it be more fair for Pioneer to keep this drive in the closet, once with it's current configuration competes (and is beaten) to the old and better (at least for it's price) A04...? At least A04 is able to write every disk on the market faithfully...

Reconsidering what you told ..Hmm.I could get 05 for less$ than 04, but on the other side thoughts like you pointed stays. It is a problem as the offer is walid ~till Christmans and no more, when on the other side DRU is almost double the price of 05.I realy hope that firmware will solve it or that newer seria is better.

...No reply from the guy MT_MEDIA maybe later

Sory for late updatee, been really busy.

ok, this is what i found out with the new batch of 105. Problem still persist, however many Princo and early Ritek medias did fine burning below 1200mb, verifying errors appeared after this point, and errors always occured when burning at 2X.

So.. tried abit of a sneaky trick... Inserted a Verbatim DVD-R media, started NERO, made a full DVD video compilation, selected 2X writing speed, force ejected the media with a needle using the manual/force ejection. Inserted a Bulkpaq Gen 3 Purpletop and burned + verified. All 100% no problem.

Did this procedure 4 times, all times without error write+verify. Also tested with Datawrite Classic and Eproformance. No problemo.

Now, tested writing 4 discs without doing the trick... all failed with verification errors.

Ok.. now, you go figure ;)

Sincerely // Mike

MT_Media: This does not bode well for the A05! I wonder how pioneer would respond if you mailed them this tib bit of info? thank you for this solution though! I will keep it handy for the people who have A05's that I meet.

How long will it take until DVD burning becomes as stable as CD burning! I mean, this is just silly [xx(]

I already have mailed them with this. Im also in close corresponding and cooperation with some of of the biggest DVD-R media distributors in Northern Europe.

BEWARE!! This trick works, yes, but it may damage your unit if you use it. Why? Because the laser calibrates itself for the initial media you insert, and then burn the "incorrect" media with this setting. Im not sure how, or if this may damage your unit. But i say it might! Since the manual eject feature has always been advised to use with caution and only when absolutely necessary. Also, the fact that you are burning the media with a different laser calibration then what was meant, im not sure how this may damage your drive either. But i feel abit sceptical about it. However.. it does proove something to us.

Sincerely // Mike

Yep.. and guess what..

budget medias work again... Didnt i say at the start of this thread the problem was not the media? And some doubted ;)

Heres your proof.

Have just tested Bulkpaq gen 3+4 , Whitelabel gen 3 and Eproformance (both the ones with Prodisc dye and TDKg02).

All verified 100%, this was practically impossible with the inferior 1.00 FW.

While my 1999 DVD drive gives read error after about 1/2 of the disk, the 105 I wrote the disk with reads it perfect, I guess I will have to go buy a new DVD reader to go check this :(

Has anyone had a chance to test dvdpro brand media with the updated firmware? I had heard good things about them with the a03 and 4's. I ordered a shipmet a few days ago. If not i will post the results when i get them.
