NEC says its new Versa S3000 will use InterVideo's Linux InstantOn to let users hear music, watch DVDs, and more without having to wait for Windows to load.

"InterVideo claims its product boots in under 10 seconds, turning standard x86 PCs into 'complete home entertainment centers" operated by remote control',"says LinuxDevices.com here.

In another story, it says last month, Toshiba launched its Qosmio laptop - with a Linux-based media player environment.

The S3000 wil be sold in Hong Kong and China.
