I just bought this drive and to start off with I couldn't get speeds higher than 15x. Then I switched to DMA mode and got 32x out of it. However it's supposed to be a 48x drive and I am using 48x media.

In Nero I can't select 48x and when a CD is inserted it displays the max speed of the drive as 32x. When no CD is inserted it displays as 48x.

Can anyone help me?

what kind of media are you using? it sounds like the media is CLAIMING 48x writablility, but in actual fact can't handle it. I've run into this problem with Princo CD-Rs before. If you use Nero CD Speed and use the CD info tool, it should tell you who it thinks is the manufacturer of your CD-R.

Don't worry! this doesn't sound like a drive fault! it might be a problem with settings though, but more likely it's the media in my opinion.

Yup that's probably it then.. I got 50 free Princo CD-R's with the writer which CLAIM to be 48x.

Well, thanks for putting my mind at ease :)

Hi, i got the same problem after buy it...
but all the problem is that you must do is:

First Install the ASPI drivers provided by ADAPTEC at their website www.adaptec.com

after install the drivers, start nero, select file menu, preferences
select the Cache tab and click on Test all drive speeds...

if everything is done.. now you can view the 48x in all the lists over nero!!!

it will auto detect the maximum velocity at it will burn a cd...
any question? write me.
