LAST WEEK, AMD slashed the price of its Athlon 64 3500+ processor by 30%, making the cheapest 939-pin chip more affordable for those saving pennies for a Doom 3-inspired upgrade. There's more to this price cut than the hefty discount, though. Because the 3500+ is AMD's least expensive 939-pin chip, the cut effectively lowers the price of entry for the entire Socket 939 platform.

Is the Athlon 64 3500+ the chip to have for budget-conscious enthusiasts? Is its 3500+ performance rating well-deserved?

I am (or rather was) a INTEL - P4 fan for quite some time now...but lately I see that AMD's chips are making BIG PROGRESS...also the price is lower than same range P4's...so if that continues until when I would need new CPU (which will be soon I guess)...I will definitely choose AMD! We'll have to wait and see what comes by in following months..

I still can't get it why people afford P4 processors rather than AMD. With my AMD 2800+ Barton I'm completely satisfied even with the requiring applications I use.

I agree with You Leviathan...2800+ Barton sure is a nice piece...but when I was buying my computer (end of 2002)...there wasnt any that good CPU from AMD...thats why I choosed P4 (any i got quite good discount too - cause my friend owns that store)

But like I said...at next buying...AMD sure is VERY highly ranked!
