You can try the following trick:
1) Remove all optical storage drives from the secondary bus
2) Keep the power at the Sony drive, but remove the IDE cable
3) Power up PC, boot at DOS, connect now the IDE cable
4) Use properly (check
dhc014) the MTKFlash software and your drive should come back alive, its very hard to "kill" a LiteON based drive
After your drive comes alive, you could use the LiteON XJ-HD166S firmwares since are probably newer than what your Sony drive includes

Digi's page you can find the binary DDU1612 firmware DYS3 and the 166S DS1C firmware, of course this will transform your drive from a SONY DDU1612->JLMS XJ-HD166S but i don't think this is a real problem after all
