I may have found my almost-perfect drive. I have read the review and it is extremely detailed and I am glad to see it reads so well. Now, it got a bit fuzzy around the part where it talked about its ability to read DL media, is the drive OK with reading DL media that it burned itself?

And, is the drive generally quiet? The LG I have now is loud as **** and it drives me nuts.

Thanks
Joe

Does the 812 = 832?

And, has the hacked firmware upgrade for the 812 --> 832 conversion been tested and safe to use?

Thanks

depending on the prices available in your area, it might be best to just get the original 832S.

I can get an 812 for $104 CDN and the 832 for $134. I am also getting a TV Tuner and I'm on a Student's budget so if the 812 is essentially the same as the 832 when u use hacked firmware, that's the route I think that I want to go.

Thanks
Joe

Would an NEC 2500A + Liteon16x DVD-ROM be a better idea than simply one liteon 812? THe first combo is only 30 dollars more CDN.

I am now having concerns about what media will work well with the liteon and I understand the drive is fairly picky with what u can use and since DVD+R media is still fairly expensive, I'd rather be able to buy cheaper media.

Any suggestions?

With a program such as OmniPatch provided by the codeguys, that makes media compatability a "non-issue"

It literally makes media compatability a non-issue? Even if I buy some noname dvd-r media @ $29 CDN for 50 pcs? Haha, I want whatever drive that will allow me to not spend an arm and a leg to get 4x Verbatim DVD+R everytime I need a solid burn.

Thanks

Joe

Also, can firmware changes be easily reversed? I guess not eh?

Yes the firmware can be changed easily, back and forth, however you need!

Sweet.

So, how exactly can the manufacturer find out that u used an unofficial firmware if you flash back to the official when u call in your warranty? (last question, I promise) lol.

Thanks

You can flash back to either "fixed" firmware or official without any problems

Yes, all these statements are true! And besides, as stated above, no one can tell once you flash back to the stock firmware..... HAPPY BURNING!
