LiteOn has built a reputation of being the drive of enthuiasts, whether it be enthuiasts who use the drive to crack copy protections of enthuiasts who crossflashed LiteOn's old CD drives. Heck, there was a LOT more of this crossflashing going on back in LiteOns CDRW days. This stuff looks pretty paltry. Their success has been based partly on a strong loyal base, and, quite frankly, I am not sure I entirely believe that they are furious as some fear that they are. If they really cared, this would've been stopped years ago when the CDRW hacks were proliferating. If they really cared, they would've actually tried to stopped the 01S and 11S crossflashing instead of making little token gestures that never amounted to anything. I don't think that they really care because in the end, this builds the loyalty upon which they have built their empire, and the number of people doing this still is relatively small. Right now, I think that a lot of this is just LiteOn trying to look tough in the face of Sony and LiteOn spreading F.U.D.
