I have this drive, it came with firmware 1.04, first thing i did was to flash to 1.06.
Wrote a Verbatim Dual Layer at 4x K-Probe was peaking at 350 at the dual layer mark for quite a while, aint tested in stand alones yet.
Second disk 4.33 gig dvd on a verb 8x -R disk, started 12x write speed selected (no 16x offered) started at just under 6x till 10%, then up to just under 8x till 46% then the rest of the disk at just under 12x... burn completed in 7:03 mins. Havn't had time to k-probe yet (i'm just going out for the night)
Can any one confirm that firmware 1.06 has removed the 16x write speed option to 8x disks? I would have thought if any disks where to be offered for 16x write it would be 8x verbs?

I've now tested the DL Verb written at 4x in both my Panasonic dmr 100 and Kiss dp508 (tosh 1712) and it plays back flawlessly, didn't even notice the dual layer switch.
I'm off to k-probe the 12x wite on the verb 8x -R.
