BenQ had a poor reputation in CD burning. They're been opening eyes lately because they basically having Philips running the show for them. Philips does a lot of the design and the hard technical work, and BenQ churns out the drives. A LOT of the work is done by the chipset, and having Philips provide BenQ with their chipset is helping BenQ a lot. Whereas the current Taiwanese King, LiteOn, is using MediaTek's chip, which isn't as good. And their big-corporation buddy, Sony, is more interested in being a nasty bully than actually being helpful, unlike Philips.
