I am using a Dell 8250
Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz
512 MB of Ram
Windows XP home edition
Nec DVD+rw ND-1100a drive

After upgrading to Nero 6, I cannot get the program to work.
I add the files but when I get to the screen to burn the disk, the burn button is greyed out.
I cannot run infotool, as the InfoTool program completely freezes the computer up.
The only way to turn off the computer is to pull the power plug.
Ctrl Ald Delete does nothing.

I went back to using Nero Express 5.5.10.56 Bundled which works great.
Info tool works with this version.

Repeated emails to Nero support have been ignored for a week now.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be.
Nero Express 5 was removed before trying to install Nero 6.

I think I have wasted my money on Nero 6.
After using Nero 5 on two other computers with no problems, I upgraded to Nero 6 only to have nothing BUT problems.

Try installed Nero 6 over 5.5, if this is possible.

ASPI installed
Nero 6 over 5.5 - no help
Used Clean and uninstall tools from Nero site - still no help
Going back to 5.5 - at least everything works!

It might be some problem with your Installed application. Maybe some program is interfaring with nero.

I tried nero 6 with 7 cd writers and a dvd writer without any problem.

Can you explain your problem in detail like is there any other burning software installed?, etc,etc

It might be your branded pc.

Which ASPI do you have?

I bought Nero 6 Ultra Edition (new in a box) from a local store.
Maybe I shouldn't have installed the entire suite?
Have WNASPI32.DLLfrom the nero site.

I also have Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 and Sonic MyDVD 4
installed on the computer.

I could get rid of the Roxio program if that is a problem, but need the Sonic for editing and burning DVDs for movies from a camcorder.

Apart from Nero's ASPI you need system ASPI. The 4.60 version is more stable with XP.

I hope this to be your problem

I just checked and it says that ASPI is not properly installed.
I will try installing later today and see if that helps.

I installed ASPI 4.60
I installed Nero 6 and checked to make sure ASPI was in the nero folder.

When making a DVD I selected the files OK, but when going to the final screen to burn, the "Burn" button is grey in color and doesn't work.
This is the same in Nero Express and Nero.
Info tool also completely freezes up the computer again.

Thanks goodness for System Restore, I am back to Nero 5.5

Info tool freezes... this is not good, when you had Nero 5.5 what did info tool?

Is it possible one more try? Unistall Roxio to see what will happen...

I uninstalld roxio, and the Color returned to the Burn button.
Nero would burn to the disk.
Then I made the mistake of trying InfoTool again.
Big mistake!!!
The computer froze up again, and I had to pull the plug to restart (Nothing else worked)
I got the Blue Screen of Death 3 times before I was finally able to get into windows, and do a System Restore.
This scared the hell out of me. I thought I had really screwed things up this time.
I'm done experimenting for now.
Nero 5.5 works for what I'm doing.
I'll just write off the cost of buying Nero 6 as a mistake, and not take a chance messing up my computer for good.

If it's possible, try to clean install xp followed by drivers and then nero 6. Dont install any other app. Then check Nero.

Relating Nero Infotool, at startup it searches for ide drives, drivers, aspi, installed softwares, etc, etc. It might be some problem for nero infotool to detect these.

Also change your Nec drive to master/slave and check. And
disconnect the drive's ide cable and check whether nero infotool freezes or not.

Nero 5.5 is working for what I want to do, so I'm not going to reinstall the operating system just to upgrade to Nero 6.
I can get it to work by removing Roxio CD Creator, but Info tool if activated will freeze up the computer.
With 5.5 installed, everything works, including InfoTool
If you knew how many programs I have installed, you would not want to do a complete or selective removal of them.
The path of least resistance is to just write off Nero 6 as a bad investment .
Everything else works great.
It really bugs me that Nero Support never got back to me on the problem.

Just a note from a similar (freeze) experience with Nero V6.

Recently, I installed the Nero V6 Suite that came bundled with a Memorex internal DVD drive. After installing Nero, I would consistently get the Blue Screen of Death (computer freeze) upon bootup. After much anguish I discovered that Easy CD Creator was at fault. Evidently, Nero V6 and CD Creator did not coexist in harmony. After booting in Safe Mode and uninstalling CD Creator, the computer no longer freezes and all Nero v6 Suite programs work as advertised.
