Hmm...
I returned the drive for a new one today.
This one came with US0F but the same problem occurred and with the same burst rate of 5.6MB/s.
I thought of what Minos said so.. I tried tightening the ide cables by pushing them in more, while the computer was shut down of course. But when I turned on the computer again, KProbe and the LiteON Firmware Patcher were not able to detect my drive. Both Nero and Alcohol120% detected the drive though. After that incident, I tried reinstalling the nForce drivers.. that did not help. Then I tried installing the ASPI 4.60 drivers... still no luck.

Yay.... this keeps getting worse and worse.

I will buy 80pin ide cables tomorrow and see if the results would change.
And the nForce driver problem... it probably is since the motherboard can use both ide connectors with max speeds upto ATA133 which is printed in the manual.

As for another software, what would you recommend me getting for making data cds and copying ps2 games.. hehe

After almost a half hour of goofing around... should I just screw it and re-format and re-install XP and hope that everything will work out? ( This time I won't be installing the nVidia IDE drivers ).

Did you run Nero InfoTool before trying your drive?
It seems to be the same problem happened to me.
Try to restart your computer and run Nero Burning Rom directly.

doggie re-flash US0N "official" firmware with the "FlashFix" utility and remove the ASPI drivers.

Might be..., but it isn't the case.
Before I removed the ASPI, I burned several media "-R" (RITEKG04, SONY04D1) and "+RW" (PHILIPS041).., and I've a lot of problems.., errors with Nero and RecordNow (four -R media to the trash in one day), bad Kprobe statistics, problems with BookType utility (error at start)..., I didn't know what happen..., I verified DMA, IDE drivers, IDE cables..., all OK, but the problems were continuing.
I was using the US0N w/Omnipatcher, then I returned to US0N "official" and the same problems.
Finally I re-flash again US0N with FlashFix and I remove the ASPI..., missing problems. No more media for crash, no more errors during the burn process, no more BookType errors, and good Kprobe statistics...., now the 812S is a great value.

I used nforce2 Ultra400 board (since doggie)..., this it is the reason of my "recommendation"...., probably it doesn't work..., probably it works ok..., I don't know, but it's only one more simple test, and doggie doesn't lose anything for do it.

panoramixx, NForce M/B are well know to have compatibility problems with IDE devices...

Maybe..., but my 812S runs OK without ASPI..., and I'm not smoking anything.

Yes, it's true in some cases with some drivers, but if you have the suitable version drivers everything works correcly.

I ask.... someone try to disable ASPI?..., what happened?... is it impossible that the recorder works correctly without the ASPI?..., because then my case is a strange thing.
