I just bought a pack of 32X CD-Rs. When i burn them on my 4x Yamaha burner (using Nero) all seems to go well except that i can't actually read any of them. On some i can see the files but can't read them and on others the drive doesn't even recognize that there is a CD.

Is it possible that 32X CD-Rs have a minimum burn speed that is above 4x?

Were you burning with audio master on? My liteon cant read them, only cds that are burnt without it. (but my car cd player can read them)

I think that your writer doesn't support these disc's.
It might support different 32x and higher speed disc's.
Also make sure that you have got the newest firmware installed and try some other cd-r's.

I've been doing some research into this sorta thing, and I found an interesting article on CD-R dyes, that might explain this problem. In essence what it says is this:
Cyanine Dye: First dye made, most compatible, ages quickest, and doesn't support 4x or 6x burning
Phthalo-Cyanine: Lasts longer then Cyanine, but not quite as compatible, doesn't support 1x or 2x burning
Azo: lasts long, but even more incompatible

Thanks for all that replied to my original post. As it turns out I have retired my 4x burner and bought an LG 32x. Now, using the same 32x CDs I can burn ok but can only read reliably on the burner - i.e. my 52x LiteOn reader, my laptop DVD and my car SONY CD player can not reliably read the CDs.

I think the issue now is that both burner and CDs are pushing there 32x spec and are off just enough that read is no reliable. I started burning everything at 24x and have not had a problem with any of the CDs on any of my drives. Also of interest was that the burn time was about the same at 24x as at 32x (about 3.5 minutes for 700MB). I figure it was likely having trouble at 32x so was not burning at optimum speed.

Looks like the disc's don't work on 32x in combination with your LG burner. Better try a different brand next time or try some lower speeds.
This media might not be very good since both burners have problems with it.
