I've been having problems lately, and I'm not sure if it's Nero, Drive, or Media related....

Here's the scoop:

I have an Optodisc 4x DVD+RW. I burned it in my PX-712a, and it failed during the leadout. I ran the disc through Q-Check, and it looked good, maybe even quite good! I did a transfer rate test on it, and it read at 12x perfectly. Conclusion: The disc is not the problem... maybe a drive issue?

I burned the same DVD+RW on my LiteOn LDW-411s, and it again failed during the leadout. I ran the disc through Q-Check again, and it looked only a little worse off then the Plextor's burn did. I again put it through a transfer rate test, and once again it passed even when being read at 12x. New Conclusion: It's not the drive, and the media looks fine.... maybe it's Nero?

So I burned the same DVD+RW again on my Pioneer DVR-107... and it didn't fail. It went all the way through the burn, and completed as it should normally. I ran the disc through Q-Check, and... well frankly it was even worse then most RICOHJPNW11 4x DVD+RWs I've worked with! Didn't do a transfer rate test on this burn yet, but I'm expecting still pretty good results.

Current conclusion: Not a clue!

For the record, My Pioneer and Plextor drives share a computer, and are running Nero 6.3.1.15, and my LiteON is in a seperate computer running Nero 6.3.0.3 (haven't bothered to upgrade it yet).

Also, I have a friend who tried burning a mini Optodisc 2x DVD-RW in his PX-712a, and it failed just like mine, during the leadout... but he says if he does a multisession disc it works fine... and if he uses Plextools it works fine.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this???

Is it possible your Plextor and LiteOn are not compatible with the specific media, while Pioneer is?

This I find VERY unlikely... and given that the media seems to be burned very well, I really don't think this is the reason.

The Pioneer is the DVR-107 running unhacked 1.16 firmware.

EDIT: I should probably clarify that the Plextor does have a *HUGE* bias against all Optodisc -R/+R media, but seems to be able to burn the DVDRWs fine, other then the fact that the Leadout fails.

The Plextor is running firmware 1.03 with Plextools 2.14 (not the newer 2.15 yet). And The LiteON is running the unreleased firmware FS51

You only feel that way because a lot of Optodisc's 'B' grade stuff gets dumped in Europe (and no, I'm not just *SAYING* that, I *KNOW* that )

'A' Grade Optodisc DVDRWs are quite good... and so far the only 2x DVD-RWs I've found that'll overclock to 4x on my Pioneer running a hacked firmware

Eyes down, I'll guess 6.3.1.18 - on the 5th/6th of July or later - since they've been late with the monthly demo timeout update for the last few!
