Eggplant:

I have the CRW-F1, it's a fantastic drive. Yamaha releases firmware for their drives as needed. I, like you had a problem with the write speeds, however after purchasing the drive, I have noticed that the write speeds are not an issue, if you choose Optimum Speed Write Control (OSWC) then the drive will choose the best writing speed for the media that you have inserted. This works fantastic, if you insert high quality media, you can write up to the 44X speed without any problems. A big feature that sold me was the 24X re-write CDRW speed, this is a feature that I have been waiting for. The Disc T@2 function is just an added bonus. You'll get great support from Yamaha (unequaled by any other). I can't speak for the Plex drive, you'll have to make an informed decision for yourself, but don't let the user "select" speed be a setback for you, as stated in alot of earlier posts, because it is not a problem.

yea but still i would like to choose writing x24...
so you don't think there will be a firmware upgrade for that?
and does it copy all protections?

i think i will go for it unless i hear something new...
do you know when the review is coming out?
thanks very much, again,
eggplant

most cheap quality media is usally set to 24x on the yamaha with OWSC on. atleast that's been my experience.

But well.. the ones that're rated for 16x max like the metal azo discs're of course locked to 16x no matter what.

Other than what Graffitti just stated, most quality media will write at the advertised speed without any problems. I was worried about this before I bought the CRW-F1, but I had alot of 24X media, and they write fine at 44X!

I stick with my OWSC. only difference between 24x and 44x is like what? 30 seconds? I can't even make myself a bowl of instant noodle in that time, let alone make a jelly sandwich. I don't see why the recording speed is even an issue.

When I bought my CRW-F1, I bought it for the 2 year warrenty, yamaha's no nonsense customer support, audio master, and knowing fully well that every cd that I'll be burning with this burner will yield absolutely no error.

and i must say i'm deeply inlove [:I]

i have 2 questions though:
1- where is the OWSC feature?
2- I got a stiker in the box, looks like an electirc circuit or something (man i feel stupid right now...[^])
what is it? what i'm supposed to do with it?

thanks,
eggplant

OWSC is automactically on unless you turn it off in nero under the recorder settings.

and I'm guessing that stiker you're talking about is a jumper, which is used to set whether the drive is in master or slave mode. if it is a jumper, it goes in the back of the drive on the pins.

hi.
did you said it was a sticker?
it's probably an anti-theft device that stores use.
if that sticker is passed thru door, it will trigger the
alarm. store rub it off with magnet at the cash register.
