I upgraded my CRX215E1 using the Lite-On's, but not Sony's, firmware patched (not by me) to read CRX220E1. All the Sony's whistles are gone/lost both in the B's Gold and Nero. So now, by the hardware my drive is Sony while by the firmware it is Lite-On 52246S.

some media info:

i just got the F1 and burned a few using my two types of media i had on hand at the moment..

Maxell (ritex) with the circuit board design burned at max but when read in cd speed really slowed down the read speed at the end 10 minutes or so, down to like 9x, and when played in my home stereo, it had a dificult time finding latertracks, but still found them except, a brief millisecond of the beginning of a track was burned on the previous track, this is not good, so i burned again at 16x, fixed the read problem completely.. so the media is subquality..

my other media, the memorex with the black screwtop (TY) seemed to have no problems at burning at max, and reading at max..

so ill stick with higher quality media, and i still havent got the t@2 to work right, it wont seem to open, but its only been a few tries..

this drive is much better than the sony 183E3 at least..[:(!]

Yep in the last few Years Maxell has gone down hill with there Media !!!
If you want trouble free burning I suggest you use Verbatim Super Azo with the Data Life Plus or T.Y !!!

btw, using the F1E for scanning discs is not suggested, since it doesn't support C1/C2 error reporting, use the Sony drive instead!

Did you mean that even if there are errors on the disc the F1 wont report them??? If this is what u meant then try scratch the disc and do another scan with the scracthed disc, am sure plenty of errors will show up.

The F1 is not going to report to you on C1/C2 errors even if you put a stone in the drive.

Though, it will report to Yamaha in their labs as they have an access to the commands the drive proprietarily supports.

I noticed that this was posted under Supported media list for firmware V1.0c. It should be noted, that firmware 1.0c does not have a speed reduction, this was introduced in firmware 1.0f.
