9-4-02 tried the Cheap DuraBrand cd's that i had laying around for a while because i use Memorex, Sony etc cd-r but ran out of my 40x cd-r's, so i thought i would use the cheap durabrand 24x-multispeed cd's at 24x since thats what they are supposed to be compatable with at the highest speed but i forgot to check the box for 24x and left my 48x tdk writer at 48x the damn things worked.I called a friend to bring me a couple of his 40x cd-r's to see if they could record at 48x- they turned into coasters.

I buy these cheap ass cd-r in houston at FRY'S electronics on sale for like $7.50 for 50 cd's this is unusual that a product not certified will work @ 2x what is printed on the label and most of all i have about 400 of these boys in my cabinet because people always want me to make mp3 cds for them! well hello i will stock up on these boys until they change them or i find a better deal somewhere else!

they will burn at those speeds, but if you do a CDSpeed CD Quality check, you'll probably notice that a lot of errors'll occur.

Not only what Graffitti just told you, those durabrand cdr's that you mention are of the "imation" quality when it comes to CDR! And as I may quote my good friend Laffin, Imation / Cremation, same difference!

Graffitti,

This is correct. I have had nothing but horrible experiences with imation media here in the US, it is the absolute cheapest media I have ever run across. I had the same problem with the durabrand media that you mentioned. The upper layer will peel off in time and you will lose data. I hate to see you write important data and lose it due to poor media. Have you ran any tests to check the errors on the durabrand discs that you wrote to at 40X?

well.. strangely enough, I haven't had any overly negative experiences with CMCs, but then that's probably only cause I don't really burn at really high speeds with them. Used to only burn them at 12x, and only till recently with my Yammie that I started them on 24x. All the 40x and above media made by CMC in the US're kinda worthless.. You can't really go above 32x I think, and even then you're really pushing the media to its limits. I know the Khypermedia that OfficeMax have on sale a lot're CMCs, but stay away from them. As the protective layer on the top is nearly non-existant. Gotta take really care of those. The TDK ones seems to have a really coat though, atleast it seems to have the same coat as the TDK TYs. I have yet to try any Riteks for some time. How're the quality on those now anyway?

Well if you are thinking of using Ritek with your F1 forget it they are still not Compatiable YET you will end up with Coasters even at low speedsbut! But they are fine with Lite-on and AOpen and and also the Yamaha 3200e. The best results I have been having on the F1 are from some Intenso 40x Speed (Prodisc) I have done quite a few and not one Coaster even at high speed !!!
I hope this Helps !!!
