I have tried ADS TECH 1394 case and it was a piece of S***. I swapped it out once and it still burned out. It did however work with Yamaha,Plextor and HP. I hear they have improved there bridge but am not willing to try it yet. I have tried some old SCSI cases that were cd-rom capable and had varied results. I have also used a brand name burners ext case and put other drives from the same manufacturer in it and they work. I would try to find out if ADS fixed there chip problem. If they did they would be a good company to buy from. Before you buy, ask around to make sure the case you want works. Here is a good site for cases and adapters. http://www.scsipro.com/

I am using the CDW-F1 in an external ADS TECH 1394 (version 1 case) with no problems. I can tell you this though...

The fist version of their box had some major problems with it (older - non 911 chipset). The Yamaha drive is the only one I have been able to get to work in it reliably (0 coasters! - out of 35 tries).

Now I wish they would make a dual USB 2.0 / 1394 box!

The CRW-F1DX (USB 2+IEEE1394) is now avaliable at Yamaha shop online for $299.99 US!!! That's a $550 AUD conversion...

I'm sure it will be about $500 AUD here [^]
