Well it was just the same years ago with Betamax and Vhs one Wins and the other Dies and I have no doubt that it will end up just the Same but lets hope this time the Good one Wins !!!

Probably dual recorders that support both formats would be the ultimate solution!

The example of the video Betamax is very good. We already forget that there was another standard, the 2000 from Philips which was excellent and could be used on both sides like an audio cassette.

The VHS won but I don't know that the good one won...[:p]

While I agree, it would be "nice" if a unit came out that supported all the formats, I don't see that happening any time soon. Each manufacturer is pushing his product and saying "this will be the standard" I'm kinda like everyone else, I'm waiting to see what the standard will be? And who knows if it will be the right choice. As mentioned above about Beta/VHS VCR's. The Beta was far superior to the VHS, but the VHS took off and the Beta died.

I notice a serious lack of opinions on the preferred disc, I guess that's because so few people actually have DVD burners (myself included). However, based on price I would prefer if the DVD-R won the war. Besides, wouldn't it be weird if we had CD-Rs and DVD+Rs??? actually, if DVD-R doesn't win the war, I think it would be cool if DVD-RAM came back out of nowehere and won LOL!

But seriously, the XBox supports DVD-R, all the new MACs come with DVD-R burners. Playstation 2 supports DVD-Rs. Why would anybody want to shell out more money for a slightly less compatable media? However, I also know that logic doesn't make the decisions often in these cases, so I too will wait for a visible victor in the DVD race. I Don't want to shell out extra for one the supports both formats though.
