well it happened again it doesn't read any cd the cdrw seems operational.i'm using Xp if that helps, i also tried it on win98 and it works fine but when i did rebooted back to xp it doens't read any cd.

It sems no one can help me with this problem i'm giving more details if that helps. my liteon 32123s is set on secondary master, it was a secondary slave before,the master was my creative 48x and then i had this problem so i took out my creative and put in the liteon as my master and it still doesn't work. I've updated to the latest nero software if that helps. My IDE atapi controller for my secondary channel is set to Ultra dma mode 2 i set it to this because before my problem was this was suddenly set to PIOS mode.

guess thats it don't know what else to put that is needed

Well the first thing I would suggest is you get the latest 4in1 Drivers for your Via Motherbord and install them and see if that makes any difference !!!

I think I had a similar problem and one of the other users had this solution:

"...seem to be a problem of IDE Controller Drivers of XP & not of the Lite-On. Just uninstall/remove the IDE Controller (Pri/Slave whichever applicable) & reboot windows.

Windows will install fresh drivers on the reboot & everything will be fine."

I tried this and now everything works great. Hope this helps.

Well i tried all both of the suggestions and it still doesn't work just like before it acts as if it reads the cd but then no data shows just 0, i haven't updated my firmware should I would that help, i'm just a don't like updating it cause i heard if you updated you're firmware you can't rollback the drive. so thanks again to the responses hope you can help me again

well suddenly it just worked all i did was made my cdrw a master but now i can't read any regular cd it burns i can only access it through my nero burning rom

If you're not using the default XP burning facility, disable burn support for the drive - it might help as it's one less thing trying to gain control of the drive.
