I bought an unbranded Philips CD Writer: CDD6611 for an astonishing cheap price. No fancy packaging or software, just the bare drive, without a Philips label on.

The first problem I had was that none of the software I had would recognise it, but that was solved when I got the latest Nero software.

But... now... it just seems to be really c**p! It refuses to work. I put a CD in and it just read it. I'm not sure how good the writing is... it 'seems' to write to the CD - the problem is it fails to read the data it wrote on the CD afterwards!

I've installed the latest firmware.

Has anyone used this model before? Did you have similar probs?

Any help/suggestions/moral support would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Jam

Try with different media brands and see if the situation improves .

I have the same your problem with Philips CD writer CDD6611. Here are what I did to make it works.
    - Go to this link below to update flash
    http://www.p4c.philips.com./mprdata/020415/0204150018_fus.exe
    - Using Nero burning software, it works very well. It can recognize your CDR and burn all kind of format.
    Good luck.
