Hi Graffitti
Blast you have spoiled my fun I was waiting for my mate Clint to tell me what to do!!
There is no DMA on SCSI in Windows XP also there is not settings in The Device Manager for the Scsi all you will see on the Tabs for your SCSI General/Drivers/Resources and in none of them will you find any settings. But your are right about the DMA it is not available for SCSI !!! I have contacted Plextor for an answer on this Issue so as soon as I hear anything I will let you all know !!!

Orright, but I told them to watch out for a clown e-mailing them for tech support, so you'd be lucky to get a reply!

BTW, Laffin there *IS* DMA for SCSI devices, it's just you don't have the option to enable it - it should be already enabled...

Well it auto enables. I don't know of/or heard of any cases of a SCSI interface having Direct Memory problems...

It must be always on, according to a source (which I forgot the link now ). There is no option for it in device manager and the likes, so its apparently always enabled.

So with you knowing so much about Plextors and SCSI can you answer Stuart1's first question then which was " When i run NERO cd speed it tells me the burst rate is 1MB/s, which for an ultascsi device is pants as it should be around 20MB/s so what is happening and why won't Plextor answer e-mail questions !!!

I don't know why his problem is occuring, but I know now it's not DMA related

As for Plextor not returning *your* E-mails, well they return mine always and very swiftly... What does that tell you??

For some reason the Plextor PX-40Tx does not cache sectors.
This is pretty normal for audio sectors but weird for data sectors.
So when the burst rate is measured the drive keeps reading the same sectors over and over again instead of returning the data from its buffer.

Strange thing because it's the only Plextor which behaves like this.

instead of relying on cdspeed's info on burst speed, maybe you should use windows performance monitor, and just manually measure it through that.
