Hi, i'm looking at getting a new burner in the next week or so, and i've narrowed it down to 2 burners:

Sony CRX175A188K
Lite-On 24102B

Does anyone have a preference? and if so why?

thanks.

Hi Mr_Tinkles
Out of the 2 that you mention I suggest you go for the Lite-on as a lot of people are having problems with the Sony and their Tech Support is pathetic. Just do a search on this forum for the Sony and you will see what I mean!
I hope this helps

are they having problems with that specific model, or just problems with sony burners in general?

i've currently got a CRX1611E and it seems to be fine.

It seems to be just the Sony ctx 175 for instance just look at
http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4908
and when you have done that just go to the search function at the top of the Forum and just type in "sony 175". Hopefully this will help you make your own mind up.

that can't be true.

Oh yes it is true! It does have the Lite-on inside but the outside is just a different box. The TDK 401248b is also a rebadged Lite-on but in a very high quality case.

thanks buddy, I have a friend that got one from Walmart for $100 but he lives in another State, they don't have the same sales in every state. I was wondering if I still have to wait for the new Yamaha or buy this one.

Thanks a lot

Hi laszlotr
Well if you are prepared to pay an extra $100 for the Yamaha CRW-F1 I would wait although the TDK 401248b internal is a superb machine the TDK 401248b USB2 version should be just as good and it is an absolute bargain at $100 as here in the UK the cheapest I have seen them is 179.99. that is over twice the price.

thanks a lot, I will try to get it, I have a Sony firewire enclosure though, ready to use with my new Yamaha, so the price for that will be $200?
