One always hopes it will. But the question is, when it hits retail, is it going to be "beta" hardware or will Yamaha get things together? I'm tired of buying products that companies have to "fix" after they release them.

Of course it has flaws. Remember that we want a burner to be hell fast, has best writing quality, doing SD2 by hardware, authoring perfect AudioCDs etc...

I guess day by day we become harder with manufacturers...

Probably it will. We have mentioned the weak points to Yamaha, its time for them to fix them...

We can confirm that, at least with v1.0A firmware. We haven't re-tested ,yet, with v1.0B. Since the drive includes OAK chipset, you must not expected great miracles for EFM correction. Also current EFM correction may become useless with newer copy protection themes (like StarForce, TAGES). There is always the software overpass (AWS like features)...

The hardware is finished, firmware is still in progress. I guess the retail package will include probably v1.0B firmware, and newer firmware revisions may come soon...

Probably you refer to LiteOn products? They tend to release products very quickly and afterwards releasing tons of firmware updates to fix problems. Not the best way in my opinion...

Also, in your conversations, not sure if you're limited by an NDA, I'm sure you have brought up the lack of choices for write speeds. What has their response been?

Yes and no...As i said we need to short out things before proceed with review.

You will read in the review...But it supposed that the drive selects automatically the best writing speed when you select 44X

Hm... I received email reply from Nero support people last week which I read yesterday. They (or he?) told me to throw my Nero CD away after installing Nero 5590 version.

John, I'm not so shure Yamaha CRW-F1 uses OAK chipsets. Yamaha claims they have developed the "YDC132-V" especially for the F1 series.

It also includes an OAK chipset and of course the new Yamaha chipset. The Yammi CRWF1 may do SD v2.0-v2.30 but not the latest v2.51+...Who knows, maybew newer firmware upgrade fix that... cough cough

A.W.S stands for Amplify Weak Sectors among other things it is a part of Safedisk 2.
For you to Enable it with you Living in the USA.
You must change your regional settings (in control panel) to Australia or Canada or something other than U.S. or Japan.

1) Uninstall CCD
2) Reboot
3) "Move to another country"
4) Reboot
5) Reinstall CCD, then AWS and Hide CD-R media will work for you.
But make sure you use Clony to do the settings in Clone CD.
