Hello Everyone,

Just OC'd an Iomega CDRW23040 INT-B to LTR-48125W using mtkflash and VS02 firmware from CDFreaks. Re-flashed to VS06 shortly thereafter.
Havn't had any coasters yet using Philips 32X GOLD CD-R (CMC Magnetics), Verbatim 32X (Maxed out at 32X), Sony 32X, Sigma Platinum 32X (CMC Magnetics), Acer CD-RW 10X.

Burned MP3 to CD Audio with no problems using default settings by Nero 5.5.8.2 mostly at 48X. Been using Stomp's Backup MyPC with file verification on, seems OK.

Did notice popping sounds when playing original audio CDs and recorded audio CDs. These pops go away when playing audio CDs on slave DVD drive using MusicMatch 7.2 and standard Sony component system.

Gentlemen :

I saw some incorrect statements in this forum. First I am a owner of Lite-On CD-RW LTR40128S and my Firmware is at ZS0J. At this time, Nero is reporting to me that my drive supports Mt. Rainier format, do not test P-CAV at 40 X because I don't have midia available in my country for that speed (my 17 years old son used the CD-R that comes with drive before I stopped him - he is really to fast too....). In the site of LiteOn, there is a note that once you migrate to a new firmware the return is impossible. Does anyone had been succesfull to do that at advanced firmwares now available ? Also in the LiteOn site I read that disable Smart Proof is not possible with the new firmware so I'm really afraid to OC my drive. Thanks in advance.

Hi fcap
You say Gentlemen ! But we have Lady members as well !

If you believe everything you read on the Lite-on Website I do believe that you believe that The Moon is made of Cheese and also that Brazil will win the 2006 World Cup !!!

Anyway Welcome and Now on to the main topic You can reverse the Firmware upgrade using the correct software as many of members of the forum have said. If you do a search at the top of the page you will find their comments. But on saying this I have always been a believer of "If it's not broken don't try and fix it " Meaning unless you are a Speed Chaser leave it alone if it is working as it should or buy a 48x CDRW. Then you won't have any problems

Also you have already told us that you cannot get 40x CDR Media in Brazil so what chance have you of testing the drive with 48x Media
But if you must do it just go to :-

I overclocked a 40125W to 48125W (VVS06). The main problem is to find the right CD-Rs that can be burned with 48x.

So far, the best results I got come with very cheap (22 EURO for 50 CD-Rs) bulk CD-Rs:
"SilverCircle 700MB/80min, 1x - 40x" by Moser Baer India Ltd. (Phthalocyanine-type). With Nero Scan Disk, I get nor read errors (if burned in DAO, otherwise the last block always is marked as "unreadable" in Scan Disk, but the disk is fully readable => seems to be a Nero-problem) and 700 MB are burned in around 2:50 min at 48x.

I also tried CMC-made CD-Rs (also Phthalocyanine-type), but quality of these is very unsteady: some work fine at 48x, some don't (even if they are of the same package!). You can see the difference between CMC and Moser Baer, if you look at the disk: Moser Baer seems to have a much smoother Phthalocyanine-layer, espacially near the outer edge of the disk.

I think, it's only a matter of time, until more CD-Rs are available for burning at 48x.

PS: I work on an AMD 1400-System and Windows XP Prof.

I already tried some Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs, but because I always burn with SmartBurn on, I was only able to use 40x speed. Perhapps the next firmware release for Liteon 48125W will have a better support for Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs.

I just OC'ed my LTR-40125S to LTR-48125W using the VS06 firmware from http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Specific.asp?ArticleHeadline=Overclocking&index=5 and my test settings are: Smart-burn enabled, WinXP Pro, AMD Athlon Thunderbird on ASUS A7V133, Nero 5.5.9.0, TY 40x media (cert. for 48x, see http://www.cddimensions.com/cd-r_media/tai-cdr80zzsb40.asp).

Results? Burned a CD with 702MB of data in 2:53...CD Speed shows a mere 24 errors, or 0.000%. SWEET! :-D

So, is it all just marketing hype? Like, let's sell more 40125S as a 48X with just a firmware upgrade. Reading CDRLabs review on the 48125W tells me that it is so (reading between the line).

Hey people, I bought a LiteOn 48x40x12x 40125S but I sold it straight away because many of you's say the 40125W can support Mt. Rainer and P-CAV.

However, does the 40125S also support support Mt. Rainer and P-CAV once flashed using the VS06?

This thread is good in helping many!
Nice support.

Hong

Yep---my 40125S flashed to VS06 now has Mt. Rainer support. At least that's what Nero says. I'm not sure how to test for P-CAV, though...
