Hi, I had a friend help me back up some folders on my hard drive but it kept rejecting file names longer than 64 characters. So he cut the names shorter to less than 64 characters. When I tried to open those files some of them didn’t open & many of them which were web pages had only text in them but no graphics. Most of my files (over 50,000 of them) have long file names. Does it mean that I won’t be able to burn them or do I have to reduce their both file and folder names to shorter than 64 characters? Is this the case with all cd writers or just the old ones or is it a burning software problem? He had an old 12X HP writer and easy cd creator software. Why windows allows file names up to 256 characters but cd writers will not burn them is puzzling. I am in the process of buying a new 24 X writer and only choices I have (Due to limited brand availability where I live) are (1) Plextor (2) Yamaha (3) Iomega (4) Sony (5) Samsung. I am new at all this technical stuff & writers & wrong choice would make my life miserable. To top it over there is virtually no support & Vendor is the king & definitely no money back or exchange privileges, repair only at their own discretion which usually takes a month. Take it or live it. Yes I am living in third world country and paying over $230 for 24 X Yamaha & $ 200 for plexy. It is more than my 2-month’s salary. So I definitely need a Reliable writer. Would some people having experience with above writers kindly help me make the better choice? I know nobody can guaranty any one but there must be some that I shouldn’t touch with 10 feet pole. Thanks a million, Michael
