Hi,

what ways are there to copy dvd's onto recordable cd's?
I 've heard one can use divx, but how exactly can one make perfect copies of a movie (e.g. by using several blank cd's) without losing quality at all?

Divx is better if you know the right bitrate and all the right settings to use , it only taked one CD but it can be difficult to get all the settings right and make a good quality movie . The divx made by the groups such as Dominion are really good but i tried making them on my own and it was fairly difficult . But divx cant be played on stand alone dvd players like vcd ans svcd can .

I looked at the dvd2svcd and it says, on the explanation page at:

http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvd2svcd.htm

that you need to buy the encoder "CCE". On their site it costs nearly 2,000 USD!

I have been doing a fair amount of DivX conversions using various programs to do this with. I now use the 2-pass method which in my own opinion yields excellent results. I have fooled many people into thinking they were watching a DVD. I have not played with other media types such as ASF because i think they lack the quality of a DivX. As far as making vcd you can use Nero to do that but i personally have not tried this. Where might i find movies made by Dominion, i would like to see how my movies stack up...some have told me mine were the best they have ever seen but then again what do they say when I am not around....LOL.

if you want to learn how to convert dvd to divx try doom9.org and divx-digest.com, some program that are simple to use for DVD to DivX conversion are DVDx and Gordion Knot, just read the tutorials and you will be alright. Read and "understand" it :)
