NA- Cornfused said above that his copy of Max Payne did the same thing as Operation Flashpoint.

"Cannot locate the CD-ROM
Please eject and re-insert the CD-ROM, select OK and restart application"

This is wierd as unless he updated it with a patch, I can't see why Max Payne shouldn't work.

It is the latest patch. I can always uninstall and re-install without a patch to see if it works. Did you say yours was unpatched, Sherman?

I've created a new thread...

The non-patched version works. The patched version fails. The same applies to Kohan. The non-patched works, the patched version fails.

I've had the same problems with my LiteOn 24102b. My drive came with f/w v. 5s03. I upgraded it to 5s07 thinking upgrading is better. Now I never tried burning anything with the factory f/w but I've read in case of Plextor 24x drives, that upgrading the f/w DOES INHIBIT CD COPYING of SD2!!! I've scoured the net looking for 5s03 or 5s04 but to no avail. LiteOn has removed 5s04 from their website! I've also tried to make a backup of an audio CD! The copy has audible errors and a few tracks get 'stuck'. I'm think'n I need to return my drive.

FRUSTRATED!!!

My setup is:

W2k sp2
IWILL KK266
AMD TBird AXIA 1 Ghz OC'd 1.4 Ghz
Leadtek Geforce 2 Pro
ATA 100 Maxtor 40 GB

It's a stable board, stable OS. Uuuhh.. any ideas.. Funny thing too, is if I try to play a retail audio CD, the LiteOn drive skips!

sounds ok but does it run ok

like is the dma enabled
are all your cables ok
played retail audio in mine no problem
If you are sure that your system is 100%
then i would consider contacting the retailer who sold you the drive
as i said s507 is the best thing since the wheel

I forgot to mention it has 384 mb PC133 Memory. Ya, it runs great. DMA is enabled. The cables are fine. I had the LiteOn setup as a Primary Slave. Now I have it as a Secondary Master as the only device (no slave). I'd like to get my drive back to 5s03, but I don't think that is possible unless someone has that lying around. But 5s04 I'd like to tinker with. I sent you an email Nicki, so if you can send the 5s04 I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Bearacuda;

Have got ... will send.
But it's at home (I'm at work, now).

Just gimmie about 3 to 4 hours.

But let me mention, I never used it. My drive came with 5S01.
The zip file IS direct from the Lite-On site, however, so it should be OK.

Later...

Ok Cornfused and Co- Just bought the same games as you- OPeration Flashpoint and Max Payne. I managed to backup Max Payne and this is what happened. The backup installs perfectly on the Lite-On 24X but when I install (Full Install) on my TEAC 524EA it stopped at 65% just as it when into install the "Game" part. I don't no what the hell happened but all I know is that I can install it on the liteon and then put the CD into the TEAC and it works then on. Maybe the TEAC is a dud as it is pretty old 24X CDROM DRIVE. Next is OPeration Flashpoint.

LITE-ON 24102B

I use the same settings as Nick to copy Max Payne.. works fine.

I tried to make a backup of Arcanum but although it installs ok it wont run unless I put the backup in my old Lite-on x32 CDRom drive.

I'm guessing its using the ATIP check as ATIP cant be read on the old 32x drive.

Here's a link for an ATIP viewer http://www.gum.de/it/download/english.htm

If this is correct then its a damn simple additional protection as it would seem that all CD Masters dont show an ATIP and all the CDR media I've tested does.

Kel

PS. Anyone else tried Arcanum?
