I have already flashed the CD-RW with the image from LiteOn's site.

Now, for the real questions... I'm attempting to backup my copy of Max Payne as I have read that that is a pain in the rump (Safedisk 2). Here are the settings I am using:

Read Speed (4x)
Fast Error Skip
Read Retries: 3
Error corrections: none

This was suggested by ClonyXL.

When CloneCD goes to work, it reports that the drive doesn't support the current fast error skip settings and sets the error corrections to Hardware . The drive then makes an undulating noise as it spins up and down trying to read the error sectors. After 20 minutes, it has progressed to sector 4651.

Is this normal and expected? Are the settings accurate? It sounds painful and at this rate it will take _forever_.

Thanks.

It took 48 minutes to read through sector 10,0038 before it started reading normally. Now it is chugging a long at 4x speed.

Bueller? Bueller?

download a patch from www.gamecopyworld.com
than you don't have an 1:1 copy but what the **** ?
the copy starts even faster without SD2 ! so in mine opinion just download a cracked.exe !

I used to use the cracks from Gamecopyworld, but in the end they turn out to be a pain in the ass. I have had about 4 games that no-longer worked after patching, and gcw can't be relied upon to provide cracked patches.

You don't get those problems with a 1:1 copy, so the cracks should only ever be used as an absolute last resort.

corn listen to me man answered this before in your other thread
TRUST ME.shernan is now posting how he has found evidence of 24101b
after he had me crucified last week.

in clone in the read options for sd2 you only have to check one box
fast error skip. set your read speed higher i use max [and only go slower if i get coaster]now in the fast error skip settings set error correction to hardware[if you use any other it will only change it back].set the read retries to 3 this should read most sd2 games[i have set retries to 0 that's right 0 and it works just the same only it reads a hell of lot faster]

increase your read speed

Now I have another interesting situation. In testing my Operation Flashpoint (also SD2), I was able to copy it. However, when I try to play it back from my Liteon drive, it whines a little (like it is reading errors) and then instructs me to eject and insert the disk. However, my old crappy 36X Acer reads it and launches the copy.

Thoughts?

I have tried it twice now.

Whoa... and I just tried my Max Payne in the Liteon and it has the same problem! The error it displays for both of them is:

Cannot locate the CD-ROM
Please eject and re-insert the CD-ROM, select OK and restart application.

I can view the CD-ROM and even run programs (such as install) from it. The launch is what fails.

now this info i have read, and to be honest
i am trying still to get my head round it.

atip dont yet fully understand what it all means
BUT here goes
some later sd2 games are reported to use a atip check
so when you make a backup it does not play in the writer
only in other cd roms
as i said i have not read up on this.BUT IT IS NORMAL.
and your drive is not faulty. it has produced a 1/1 or at least a working copy.Dont understand your max pain problem.try again but use
the safest read settings, read speed set low and read reties set to 5
it will take a long time to read the image to your hard drive but the wait might be worth it.oh one more thing about thsat atip it makes strange things happen if your writing to re writeable media
you know when you want to check if a back up works before you burn it to a normal cd.

Cornfused, Just out of interest and hopefully not a dumb question- are you backing up from an image or or doing CD to CD copy.

Heh. I wouldn't know how to answer this one if I didn't want to appear "dumb". I am backing up to an image because my old Acer doesn't support a lot of the read features.

It is the same problem with Operation Flashpoint. Both copies can be read in my other drive, but not in the Liteon recorder.

That is pretty annoying if you couldn't read a CD-R in the drive that made it, I must say.

as i said earlier some games check atip

the game exe checks to see if game is still on the oringinal disk
[ie disc manufacturer dye colour]
if your drive can check the atip then the backup will not run.
Unfortunatly the liteon does check.

also some game update patches have been released that make the check.
so games that used to run before update stop running in a drive that checks the atip.i dont know if liteon will resolve this with f/w update ,or even if they can if it is hardware issue.

watch sombody tell me im wrong.

does the game play in the liteon
you say it installs.
but when you try to play it asks for the original cd.
what do you mean the launch fails
use clone to make a image of both original and back up.
save the logs and compare them for having errors in the same sectors
