I am thinking of buying a second hand HP9500i. Have anyone got any experience of backing up SafeDisc 2 protected disks on an HP9500i?

According to CloneCD's website, the HP9500i does support correct EFM encoding, a feature that is neccesary for copy SD2 games. However, this does not neccisarily mean that some games can be copied and played only on the HP9500i. ACcording to http://www.geocities.com/pcp-freak/4cdfreaks/SafeDisc2.html , there is some success, and keep in mind that most of these HP burners (HP9500i no listed) also dont support EFM encoding. When AWS is enabled, a Clone Cd feature designedd to aid burners that dont have EFM encoding, the HP9110i works but others dont see http://www.leech.at/sd2brenner . MY advicec to you is to get a burner that has EFM encoding, and is listed on one of these sites as capable of copying SD2. For more info, read http://www.cdfreaks.com/document.php3?Doc=52

I would stick to what the CloneCD author reports. This list from CDFreaks contains what users reports (which many times are false). For example that list reports Ricoh can do SD2 when it cannot. There might be some partial compatibility but i think you would want a real 100% SD2 capable recorder.

hey Biazo I think you made a little typing mistake just had a look at www.elby.com and the 9500 hasn't got correct EFM encoding on board.
So if you use clone CD look at a writer with correct EFM encoding.
