Just got a Sony CRX-175E yesterday & have had no problems burning with NERO or CloneCD under Win98 SE. (The unit actually came supplied with NERO 5.5 OEM version.) I am also using Princo 80min media so that is not the source of the problems!

I reckon the drive is faulty; how old is it? (Maybe you could exchange it.)

i think whats causing allthis is xp. I had the a simlar problem.. but by installing windows 98 back everything works fine.. just stay away from xp. i did a duel boot in bios.

Fellas I just bought a sony crx175e last week and for the first 2 or 3 cd's (compatable 4-16 speed)I burnt with clonecd just under 3.5 minutes using 16 speed. the buffer on clonecd started at 100% then come down to 50% after the first 30 seconds and stablised at 50% until the burning was finished. Then when I tried again with the same settings the buffer come right down to 0% after the first 30 seconds and the burning took between 8-12 minutes to complete with 0%buffer reading. For the life of me I don't know why I burnt the first 3 ok and then I could'nt do it any more. I'm using winXP-pro, I also tried using nero but same there with 8-12 burngint time, I also tried using Winoncd 5.0 and that was total mess with errors straight from the start. I called Sony Australia support and the tech that I spoke to, recommended I use roxio easy cd creator platinum 5.02. That will be my next step and I will keep you all posted on the results. In the mean time any information from anyone of you on the above findings would be much apriciated.

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a SONY CRX175E and I'm trying to use cloneCD to copy cds. The problem I'm having is that when I try to burn, the buffer levels go to 100% the resultant copy skips about every two seconds. Even when I burn at speeds of 1x - 4x the results are the same. Any suggestions? Your help would be greatly appreciated as I'm getting rather frustrated. P.S. I'm on Windows 95 and using "maxell CD-R pro" CDs.

What operating system are you using ?? I'm using XP PRO and have no problems what so ever! I'm burning with a number of software (CloneCD, Nero, easyCD creator and winonCD) the only program I have problems with is the WinonCD 5.0 it comes up with errors when I burn 16x or over. HINT!!! if your running xp-pro you need to disable the internal cdburing capabilities that it comes with because it interferes with your other software. Let me know if thats the case and if so I can show you on how to disable it.

Hey!! I had this burner for a while too and I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!! =(

Anyways..... This is what I did to fix that stupid medium detection error in CloneCD, I just found it out so I haven't tried in Nero or any other program. If you change DAO to RAW SAO in CloneCD it works fine. I tried 4 CDs all different brands (Memorex, Imation, Verbatim, and some no name brand) and they all worked at 24x.
DAO works for me in 16x or less which is all the speeds that dont use that ZCAV or whatever burning method its called. It worked for me, and I hope it works for everyone else!!

P.S. Anyone got the firmware upgrade 1.1 to actually work?? Whenever I run it, it says Cannot find compatible drive to update.

Firmware 1.0g

I want to upgrade it to 1.1, but when I run the software to do it, it says "No compatible drives".

.... and it is the right firmware upgrade.

I have a CRX175E working on ME, this works fine with Roxio platinum 5.02C, It needed the update to C, to pick up the burner.

Ok fellas! I have been using the sony crx175e close to a month and have tried a number of ways/programs that I can be happy with and this is the outcome. I'm using XP and my my sony gets detected by (clonecd, nero, winoncd & easycd creator)without any problem what-so-ever! I have to admit even though I dont realy like easycd creator that much, I found it works the best/fastest with my sony crx175e. I use clonecd for cd-to-cd, I found it to be the best/fastest, I use nero for mpeg-to-vcd, I use easycd creator for mp3-to-audio format for listening on any cd player. The sad news is of all the programs I use, I love winoncd 5.01 the best for any type of cd burning but when I try burning above 16x it falls apart! Hint! as I mentioned before for those who use xp, you must disable xp's internal burning program that window media player uses or you will find it conflicts with your other burning programs.

Thanks Gabe I got the file but when I try to update I get the message "No Updatable Drive Present"??????? weird!!!!!!! I know others have had this problem as well.........any sujestions on what I can do about it!
