I am leary of opening the box. I can return it, unopened, losing only shipping if done within 30 days. If I open it, they charge a 15% restocking fee... If the box says 24101b, I'll call technical support again. The person I spoke with specificially said that the did NOT make a 24101b. However, I have seen enough references to raise my eyebrows. Was the 24101b out there for such a short time because of problems? Are people just making mistakes? ...

corn as sherman says it could be a stock error
check out the review on this site
they received 24101b but when they installed the drive it identified
itself as a 24102b the all singing all copying wonder drive.
now how brave are you, are you going to be a martyr and put us all out of our misery.or is it going to cost ya
Now some others who have had probs with their drive might be giving
the drive number off the invoice and not what it installs as.50/50
phone a friend.Im afaid you are on your own.is the box sealed if not
the drive number is on the machine if it says 24102b its happy days for you.

The Lite-On LTR-24101B was installed as a 'Master' in the primary IDE BUS. The drive worked in UDMA33 mode and after booting, identified itself as the "LITE-ON LTR-24102B".

my drive came with no numbers on the box only bar code and s/n number
if it says 24101b on the box be carefull.

Hi Guys,
AFAIK, all LTR-XXX01B use BURNProof chip
and all LTR-XXX02B use SmartBURN chip
So there is nothing to do with SD2 backup
Since SmartBURN is cheaper and "smarter" than BURNProof, so you may guest what LiteOn has in mind with their latest 24X burners

all xxxx1b drives according to all forums will not backup sd2 games
all xxxx2b drives according to all forums will backup sd2 games

the topic still remains have liteon produced a drive ltr 24101b.
now if what esdoger says is true.I think all 24x liteons use smartburn [2b]and not burnproof [1b]

if your drive uses smartburn there is every chance its a 2b

i would go with that

Seldom have I herd so much drivel from so many!

And you KNOTHEADS have this poor guy, Cornfused ... well confused!

Haven't ANY of you ever thought of going to the manufactures web site BEFORE you open your mouth???

Any who care to go to it will see that there IS ONLY ONE 24X DRIVE!!!

Some seem to be confusing the old 12X drives (the LTR-12101B and LTR-12102C)and even further confusing THAT with the 16X Lite-Ons (LTR-16101B and LTR-16102B).

Bottom line, there is only one 24X Lite-On drive, and along with the new 24X Plextor will back-up SecureRom 2 disks in CloneCD.
(There ARE some other drives that will do this, all acers for example)
(Check at http://elby.org/CloneCD/english/index.htm)
And only the Lite-On will allow DAO-RAW write simulation (Plextor dosen't).

I've had one for a week now.

So, OPEN the box, and have fun. You get the last laugh on these guys, cause you (probabily) now have a BETTER drive than they do!
It'll drive 'em nuts!

ARKLAB well it seems you don't read before shooting your mouth off

some of us have had this drive nearly 2 months well before the liteonit.co.tw web site even featured a 24x drive. we had no info, on what is a very good piece of kit only let down by very sad web site.
which left most of the first buyers in the dark.where you around then,i think not due to your posting.it has only recently come to light that there is only one 24x drive check older postings on most forums.yes i admit some of early findings are now misleading.but some
are why you bought the drive.Now if you want to lay any blame then send it in the direction of the retailers
who advertised 24101b for sale.
and people posting problems with 24101b because that's what it said on the invoice.
It has never been anyone's intention to confuse only to be wary read
earlier postings KNOTHEAD.

Its funny but only when the dust and rumers settle and liteon inclued
a 24x drive on their web site,sombody like you comes along all cocky
claiming to be clever.

How could the millions of liteon owners miss the web site as it is
so cheaply stuck on the drive tray.Got to hand it to ya arky you are real observant 10/10 for that

corn the reference about invoices is not aimed at you,people have posted [eg my 24101b will not backup sd2]I am sorry if my postings stopped you enjoying this great peice of kit.But i would not have been able to sleep if i had cost you money.It has only in last two days that the 24101b/24102b debate has cleared up.Still going on in other forums.

Arklab its easy to be clever when all the facts are present.and next time try posting some thing we dont already know.I noticed you have made 80+
postings in this forum where you not brave enough to post on this thread till now.incase you was wrong

It isn't cleared up yet. Officially, anyway. I receive the drive tomorrow (September 5th). I'm sure ya'll will be the first to know what happens with it. And thanks, I don't care to be out $28 by opening it and finding out it was a lame drive.

arklab you make me laugh. the web link you post is for f/w upgrades
did you know s507 upgrade is only days old.
Was you involved when f/w s504 was released and had a negative affect
on the drive and was quickly withdrawn. adding fuel to the rumers Obviously not!.Before these f/w upgrades the 24x did not exist on their web site 2b or not 2b
and there is still no official write up on product page

Oh one more thing turn your cdrw packaging upside down
now read what it says on the bottom.

HI their- Man has things come a long way. Cornfused open the box when you get it. Their is no 24101B as no-one has replied anywhere that they even have one, let alone having a problem with one. The fact of the matter is that I rang CWS who is a supplier who supples Lite-on here in Australia has never even heard of one existing. Like I said before it is a mistake at Newegg.com. The only way to prove that I am write is to open the box!! Furthermore the 24X liteon is debuting the new SmartBurn technology without Sanyos Burnproof. I assure you that it is the 24102B Cornfused!! OPen the box, Open the box, Open the box!!!! Cornfused!! I said Open the box!! For goodness sake open the box!!! NO-BODY REPLY TO THIS I TELL YOU- THIS IS ONLY FOR CORNFUSED TO ANSWER!! when i ordered mine 2.5 wks ago, it was listed as liteon 24x and on a lot of sites listed as 24101b. i got it anyway and when i install it id as 24102b. backed up shogun warlord (sd2)and it works perfectly. i only have one word to say: open the damn box and test the drive!
