What are is 'suggested' brand of media by lite on? Is Khypermedia good? What works well, I would pefer a media that is recommended, as from what i can tell, the recorder perfers them.

As far as I can understand you, you're asking about recommanded media by Liteon? According to Liteon's website:
Recommanded Media :
CD-R: Taiyoyuden(x-type), TDK, Mitsubishi Chemical, Ricoh, Princo, Ritek, CMC, AMT,
Cursor(gold)
CD-RW: Mitsubishi Chemical, Ricoh, Ritek, Princo, CMC.

From personal experience the burner doesn't have a disk it doesn't like!!! But I find the lower the speed rating the faster the burn. I use 12x cdrs compusa brand disc and they burn the fastest. So in this case cheaper is better!!!
