I just installed a new smasung dvd+RW (SH-S182M) on my parents computer. The Computer is an: emachine, 2ghz amd athlon xp, 768 MB ram, Running Win XP, service pack 1. I installed all the software (Nero brand) that came with it, including Nero showtime. It plays audio cd's fine, can load cd-rom games, but when I put in a dvd it won't recognize it. I get the error message "please insert a disk into drive d:". (Yes, D is the correct drive letter). What am I missing? They just want to watch movies on their computer. What do I need to do to play dvds? When I open Nero showtime to play a movie, I keep getting the error "The device is not ready". I tried playing a dvd with PowerDVD and got the same message. I've tried other dvds too, just in case I had a bad disk in the drive.. same thing. I tried writing to a dvd rw disk with the new burner. That worked, and it plays in other computers but i get the same error message on my parents computer when I put it in... please insert disk in drive. I checked samsung's website, which was useless. It appears I have all the current drivers. When I go to device manager the drive is listed, with no question marks or explanation marks. When I am go into "my computer" it shows the drive listed. If a cd (audio or game) is in the drive, and I click on the drive in "my computer" it shows it's contents. If a dvd is in the player, and I click on the drive in "my computer", I get a message "please insert a disk into Drive d:". Why won't it recognize any dvd?
