Hello,
I’m interested in buying a DVD Recorder for my PC (SATA connection preferably)
My goal is to create security backups & images of my existing original CD/DVD collection of PC CD/DVD, SONY PS1-CD, SONY PS-2-CD/DVD, SEGA Saturn & as well as my Movie DVDs.

What would be the most accurate DVD-Recorder suitable for the job, which can also by-pass the copy protection found in some PC games?

I’ve read good reviews on the high speed NEC DVD-Recorders, but I’ve heard that they’re not too great when it comes to copying complicated/protected game CD/DVDs.

Any suggestions will be appreciated,
Thanks in advance.

Why not do some research and read the reviews?

I don't backup game console discs... if I was to recommend a single drive right now it would be the Samsung SH-S203B, but I don't know anyone using one for the needs you require.  Google around for some reviews as MP3Mogul suggests... you might find some that dig into a drive based on your specific needs.

Based on this sheep test guide:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101608
I would be interested for a good “3 Sheep” DVD-Recorder that can copy all Safedisk versions etc (capable of correct EFM coding of regular bits & AWS routines), to be able to read/write subchannel data & RAW mode.

Well, I am also interested in making images of my old DOS CD-ROM PC games (which have CD-Audio tracks as well as data) and then re-burn them onto CD accurately.

How about a Plextor CD/DVD-recorder?

On a side note, I tried making an image of a SONY PS-1 game (Mega Man X3), which features audio tracks as well as data, using the latest CloneCD and my ASUS DVD-ROM-E616P, but this message came up: “ASUS DVD-ROM-E616P doesn’t support reading of 96bytes”

What does this mean; will the final image generated be corrupted?
Which DVD/CD-Recorder should I get to avoid such problems?
Thanks in advance.

How about the PIONEER DVR-212D SATA BLACK BULK ?

Does it support reading of 96bytes unlike the ASUS DVD-ROM-E616P?
Also, is it true that it does not work with Verbatim 8X DVD+R DL media?

Don't know that one exists, but the rumor is there is an Asus drive... You are more likely to see a Unicorn at your local Zoo.  I have never backed up games... I'm not a huge gamer.  I know the Pioneer DVR-212D is supposed to be a good choice for those backing up XBOX games... It is a great DL burner... True Plextor drives are going to be hard to find... If most of your discs are CD-R's you want to copy, try finding a Plextor Premium or Plextor Premium II (be ready to shell out some cash).

Truth be told, I don't think CDRInfo is the best place for PC gamers to find answers to what they need...  Perhaps GameCopyWorld.com can help you.  There is also a Gamers area at Ultimate-DVDR.com.
