The new SATA drive came today...  Burned a couple discs and the quality was outstanding...  Will try to get some scans over once I get a BenQ going on one of my rigs for scans... I have one, but it was not on the network and I did not get the clipboard image to a USB drive... scan was outstanding... Verbatim media at 16 speed... Only real drag for me is no bitsetting... would be nice if it had DVD-RAM write support too... Hoping for some enhanced Pioneer firmware for the drive... Have to wait and see, but I am initially impressed.

Hi
If you're prepared to crossflash. Buffalo f/w adds autobitsetting & depending on which f/w you use Ram read/write.

For the 212 SATA?  Really???  I saw information on crossflashing for the 112D... if there is truth to it, please post a link!!!

Hi
I was told this was possible (SATA).
However I'm not having much luck so far finding this 'f/w'.
The buffalo site doesn't appear to have a SATA version yet.

Things I read while googling last night was that their is no SATA firmware but it is expected that crossflashing will be possible just as it is on the 112 series (PATA).  Outstanding burns thats for sure... and I was actually able to burn on some cheap Ridata/Memorex DVD+R DL media with good results (no I didn't buy it... someone gave it to me... I only buy Verbatim... just wanted to try it out).

Hope you enjoy your new drive!  (It sounds like that is the case, anyway...    )

Can you do a head-to-head comparison with your LG writer, in terms of writing quality (just a few tests, using Verbatim, Ritek and cheaper brands of media)?

That would be really helpful, as it will show which burner produces better quality results.

Well, I only had the one Ridata DL disc... but I can tell you the Pioneer produces slightly better burns than the LG... That said, I prefer the LG because it supports DVD-RAM and bitsetting... but if you don't need that by all means, the Pioneer is outstanding and it seems to burn cheaper media with decent results (what I have read... I only had the one Ridata disc and it was fine)... don't think you'll get that out of an LG.  I prefer to buy good media... it's avaialbe just about everywhere I look and I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for less headaches.  That won't change with the Pioneer drive.

Can you post some comparison scans, when you have the chance?

Does the drive do good quality scanning?

I don't think I will ever need DVD-RAM.. In terms of bitsetting, I think a modified firmware will be released at some point, so that is not a problem...

As soon as I can... I have a houseful of kids (brother-in-laws) right now and I just use the computer as a brief escape!!!  The rest of the time I am trying to make sure my house does not get too destroyed!!!

Sorry for the delay - spent a week in Alabama.  Here is a scan with the Pioneer:

Thanks, Sith,

I hope you enjoyed your holiday..

Many thanks for the scan...

What brand did this media come under and what speed did you burn it at?

How would you rate these results compared to your LG's writing quality?

Could you burn one image / compilation with both the Pioneer and the LG at some point, in order to compare them side-to-side?  (e.g., when you need to make 2 DVD copies of something)..

Thanks, once again,

Dimitris32

Not sure I have the kinda time with warm weather (that is long overdue) coming... If I have time... I'll try.

But the Pioneer produces better burns than the LG on the same media.  I burned the Verbatim 16x MCC 004 +R disc at 12x speed.
