Sorry I originally posted on someone else post.

Please help, my first DVD writer please bare with me.

Firmware version is 1.02.
I have bought this drive, and I am getting concerned that there is so much written about it some good some bad. Well anyways I installed mines without any problems, registered fine using windowx XP but when I try to burn an Audio CD using the companion nero version I believe is (6.6.0.15 - Will confirm when I get home) it starts and after about 5 to 10% completed comes back with a "burn failed at 48X speed". Try different speeds same issue try different media, same issue. Try just for the heck of it to burn a DVD using the companion software Power producer and allows me to select the video file and then it just shuts the program without giving an error. PLEASE HELP.

The Nero version you use is older than the drive and therefore not properly supported; try nero 7.0.0.14 or newer.

Don't pay for upgrading to Nero 7. If you already own version 6, just go to the Nero website and update to the newest version.

This would only apply if you purchased your Nero 6 within the time frame specified by Nero. Not everyone is entitled to a free upgrade.

Like I said, "If you already own Nero Version 6" you can upgrade to 6.6.1.4 -- I have done that on every system in my office. This applies to the full version, not the skimpy OEM that came with the drive, but even those are upgradeable.
The upgrades stop with 6.6.1.4 from there you have to purchase version 7. Version 7.x has caused more difficulty than it was worth, so I reinstalled back to 6.6.x.x with no problems whatsoever.
