I'm about to buy a large amount of CD-R's but I don't know which is the best alternative..?

these are my alternatives and they all costs about the same.


I will also buy one pack of "Taiyo Yuden CD-R 80 Min / 700 MB 48x Speed non printed Spindle"
Am I right if I say that I wont regret my decision..??

I personally prefer Memorex and have had no problems whatsoever.

If you can't get actual code ID's, country of origin if stated (or the EAN/UPC code, where the first 2-3 digits can be looked up for country)

None of them sound particularly inspiring...
Sony - could that be the miserable Lead Data?
Memorex - their CD-RW are an unmitigated disaster, are their CD-R any better? ... bitten twice by their CD-RW (in low and high speed) I'm no fan of theirs!
Medianca - Well, they have a website
Silvercircle - never heard of them
Sunstar - never heard of them

Yeah, unless you can get some sort of idea who makes them, I would feel really uncomfortable suggesting one over another.

So here's what I *can* say:
Sony: if it doesn't say "made in Japan" on the box somewhere, it isn't worth buying. I've never come across any good Sony media that wasn't counterfeit!
Memorex: This is a grab bag. In the rare instances that it says "made in Japan" on the box, it is REALLY good. Otherwise, it could be anything from good to below horrible!
Medianca and Silvercircle: I have never heard of these, and can't comment
Sunstar: I've at least *HEARD* of this one, but don't know much more then it's a brand name that's been around for a while. From some of what I've seen, it is probably will have either a CMC or an Acer ATIP code... neither of which really inspire a lot of faith from me.

Overall, I'd suggest finding better media choices if possible... that, or at least see if you can get samples of each.

Consistently good, or consistently bad though, that's the question?

What ever writer you're using ask the manufacture what is the best media to use with the writer.

Hrm, well following that logic, , Ricoh discs should have worked really well in my Plextor Premium drive.... but they didn't. The recommended media list is a good guide, but it is far from fool proof (although they really have no excuse for that!)

That's not strange Dolphinius, because I use to use TDK, which was manufactured by Ricoh and had very good success with it in my Plextor 48x drive. However, now I have a "Plextor Premium" and tried using TDK but found out that this batch was manufactured by CMC and man is it horrible to say the least!!! So, I use Verbatim CD/RW 32x, 12x disc (Which is on Plextor's "Recommended" list) and have had the best of success in recording music, partition backups, etc.! Now, CMC is on Plextor's "Compatible" list but not its "Recommended" list.
