I installed Nero 7 Premium with InCD. After reboot, both my Toshiba DVD reader and NEC DVD burner were not recognised by Windows.   So, I did a thorough cleanup of Nero 7 by uninstalling the product and removing all references of Ahead, Nero and InCD using the Registry Cleaning feature of jv16 PowerTools 2006. I also used a Windows Explorer search in order to delete all those references from all files on the system. The two optical readers reappeared at reboot.   I then tried to install Nero Premium 7.2.0.3b in this "clean" environment. During the process, it asked me whether I wanted the installation process to remove all existing items. I answered yes, it apparently did so and rebooted afterwards. The installation process did not resume automatically. So I launched it manualyy and after a while, I got successive messages from InCD Reader stating that An error had occurred during the installation of the “shared.txt” item. Always the same message, five or six times to which I kept on clicking on OK.   I never got to the point where I have to enter my CD key or Choose the options I want.   I did another thorough cleanup and moved back to Nero 6.6.0.15 which works perfectly without InCD Reader after a no-problem installation.   Does anyone know what this “shared.txt” from InCD Reader is all about?

Why are installing InCD anyway?  If you don't need it, don't install it.  Packet Writing is a bad idea.

I agree witrh you but I could not convince my friend who is keen on it. Anyway, at this point I am not trying to install InCD but just plain Nero without InCD.

Do a custom install and make sure InCD is not checked.

Be there the day your friend loses data with InCD so you can say... "I told you so"

This is a common problem, created by WINDOWS, not Nero, anyway, here's how you fix the problem:

First uninstall the hardware in your device manager.
then make a new notepad txt document and enter this into it.
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-
then save the text document as NoFilter.reg
right click NoFilter.reg and click Merge.
then restart your machine.

To SithTracy : That's my point. I don't reach the stage where options are displayed when I attempt to do a custom install. I don't want to install InCD, just Nero Burning ROM. But, previously installed InCD items are apparently still hanging around.

To MP3Mogul : when you mention hardware to be uninstalled, I suppose you mean the dvd burner. Must I do this even if the two optical devices are running properly now?
