Another newbie question (you folks have been very helpful so far, thanks, what a great site!): In doing searches on various things, I was reading that people here are even concerned about what kind of ink pen to use when writing on your CDRs, that maybe certain inks might even be damaging long-term to the CDR itself. Now I'm wondering if there is a consensus here on if/how those CDR-labels (CD Stomper, Avery, etc.) might affect long term durability of my CDRs? Will the glue on the label reac havoc with the CDR? Do we not use those labels at all around here? Or have I just been made paranoid by you all? ;-) Thanks in advance.

There has been "much" discussion on this matter, both simple discussion, and posted analytical posts, with results in the past on this matter.

Most have decided that using an alcohol free pen, such as a sharpie is the best end result, without compromise to the disc.

I as well as another Moderator, have used labels such as you are asking (myself Avery) without any known deterioriation, these discs I mention go back more than 5 years, and I have seen no compromise.

My discs are stored in perfect conditions, constant 65 degree temp, no humidity, in original jewel cases, perhaps this has had some effect as well....

I think either way you decide, either choice is well, as long as a quality media is used.

A friend found that labels had a tendency to cause cheap silver-top media to de-laminate.

No such problem with Infiniti white-top ... I'd say a top overcoating is essential, as the laquer over silver is just not robust enough to take abuse.

White top also gives a good background for labelling, paper labels or pen.

keeping your label application CLEAN is another essential, you do not want any particles adhering to the label and pressed into the top surface. They act like flypaper!
