I too have the LG 4167 drive and it works just fine. You did not give enough information on which software you use for burning, the brand and type of media used, computer, motherboard, number of drives, slave/master settings and will you RMA the thing.

AMD 3200+
DFI Expert
EVGA 6800GS PCIE
Cosaire 2 X 512
Segate 200 SATA GB
NEC 3540 FW 1.04 (Master)
LG 4167 FW DL13(Slave)
PSU Aspire Beast 680 Watt
Nero Ver 6
Copy2DVD
DVD2ONE Ver 2
DVDDecriptor
DVDShrink

what software do you have? For example if you have Nero 5.5 you need to be updated to 6 or 7.

Hello, BenjaGm!

I too have an LG 4167B and I've read a lot about it recently. I would recommend the following:

1. If it's not out of reach financially, sell it to some dumb-ass or throw it out the window and buy something else. This drive is nothing but trouble.

2. In the threads where people complained about this drive not recognising DVDs, the only "Now it works!" replies I saw came after they replaced their PSUs. In your case, the first thing you should do is find out who made your PSU, as low quality sources may have a real power output far below what it says on the case (you may be getting significantly less than 400 W from yours). If you really have 400 W coming out of that source, you should consider trying a 450 W source. Like I said, people said this fixed things.

Now that I think of it, there may have been another answer where someone fixed this DVD recognition problem in some other fashion, not involving a PSU change. It's better to just Google this problem and take the time to read everything you find (if you really want to use this drive and not get another one).

Word of warning: even if you get it to read DVDs, you may find it has a limited (6x) DVD-R burning speed. This is what I'm currently experiencing.
