I cannot for the life of me, find any place that sells reasonably priced ultra-speed CDRW media, here in the US.

If I cannot find some very soon, I'll be forced to put down 9$ for the Memorex 24X media being sold at CompUSA, which I've heard very bad things about.

I've owned my Asus 5224A for far too long, without being able to use fast CDRW. What gives?

Well I wanted to find some place locally so I could pick them up today, but no luck. Plus there's no shipping when purchased locally :-)

I did end up using price grabber, and purchasing a 5 pack of 24X Verbatims for 9$ shipped.

I noticed www.buy.com has a killer deal on a 10pack of 32X Ultra Speed+ Verbatim media, for 10$ and free shipping. I would have loved to pick up some of those, but I heard that US+ media isn't compatible with 24X drives.

that's ok, because even Verbatim's 32x CD-RWs aren't that good quality [:I]

I made the same mistake of buying memorex too. Yesterday I was determined to find a good set of high speed cd-rws. So a grab a couple of HP 4x-12x at Staples. So far these cds work better than memorex could ever hope to work. They are CMC magnetics disc shown in nero info tool. So far no problems. The best cd-rw that i ever got were a set of 50 tdk at 4x. had them for about year and a half now and the still work great but they are really slow to burn :( Odd thing is that thye don't show the maker on any of the cd info tools.

Whoever did I would like to shake his or her hand.

In the past, the Memorex have been InfoDisc, I imagine they are still using them, and they are rubbish!

I have a 5 pack of 4X Memorex, and also a 5 pack of 12X High-Speed Memorex, both manufactured by InfoDisc.

The 4X seems to be decent quality, I cannot remember having issues with them, but haven't used them in years due to the slow writing speeds.

I think I'm down to two of the 12X discs however, it seems after a while the discs just "die", with the CDR drive not being able to do anything with them. When you can get them to work, they seem to work good.

I've had best luck (in regards to CDRW media) with CMC discs if you can believe that. I've got lots of philips 12X media which are CMC that are still going strong. I also have a few Smart and Friendly 4X CDRW's which are at least 6-7 years old, with no problems to speak of.
