i have a few questions, i just bought some Verbatim Data Life Plus 52x discs that came in a spindle of 50. the outside of the package says that they are made in mexico. my question is, are these discs any good for audio. i am a dj and i really want to get a hold of some taiyo yudens but that is so expensive to have them imported from the u.s.a. plus the shipping and etc (i live in Puerto Vallarta Mexico)...

my dj decks are not super picky but the last thing that i want is my mixes to get blown because the disc has some errors on it.

also what do you use to get information about the discs (atip, manufacturer, hours, mins, frames???)

oh and i know that i really should have a different burner....i currently use the one that came with my sony vaio, but it hasnt given me any problems yet ( it is a Sony CD-RW CRX810E)

ok i will try burning some audio files today with the new discs. then i can run the test with nero speed. i have nero 5 but i thought that maybe there was another program that might be better. Also can you please recommend me a burner to go along with my laptop? i think an external drive is what i would need right?

Take a look at this test of the 48x Datalife Plus - 52x would probably be similar

If your drive likes them, they may perform better, but the 48x results (rated speed) were unusable - 40x was better, and at 32x and below, they behaved quite well - with that drive and that media, you'd burn at 32x and be quite happy with the result, though perhaps not with failing to meet the rated speed.

well, to be honest, that Review should be taken with a grain of salt. I have a bunch of 52x Verbatim discs that were also made in Mexico, but I haven't had a chance to test them. Keep an eye out on my newer reviews, since I am now using a lot more then the 1 drive I had before, and they should be a lot more applicable. I might even pull that Verbatim review simply because I think it will be misleading to a lot of people.

Just don't use LiteON's with Mitsubishi CD-Rs [B)]

Is it just Liteon's, or all Mediatek'd drives that won't like them.

I thought I got a bargain, some Mitsubishi 52x - but it's rumoured those might be Plasmon anyway.

Good question! I think it's just LiteON's and their OEMs. Plextor's and LGs don't appear to have the problem, and I think both have been known to use parts of the Mediatek chipset.
