I'm new here, and I read some posts, I just bought my dvd burner pioneer dvr 106 and already burned some video dvd's, But I only use dvd shrink(beta), and did not use dvd decrypter, why is this necessary?
shrink does it all, isnt it?

DVD Decrypter handles getting rid of region encoding and any form of copy protection on the disc. If the DVD has no protection then DVD Shrink can probably do it... then again, I've never tried using only DVD shrink, since DVD Decrypter is so fast!

Hi jpcolin and Welcome to Our Forum !!!
I always use DVD Decrypter first to remove Protection and to make them Region Free and then I use DVD Shrink to compress my DVD.s so they fit on one Writeable DVD as some have protection on and are not muti region so DVD Shrink can't handle some of them on its own then I write the DVD's with Nero Version 6 and I have not come across any Movies that this combination of programs can't handle !!!

Why you don't use dvd2one for the compression?

I think is very fast and easy.

I already copied 2 dvd's and did it only with shrink (beta 3.05) and everything went wel, i touhgt shrink removed the protection and made the dvd region free (there is a function for region free dirks in shrink!) so I still don't understant the need for dvd decrypter,
can someone correctme if i'm wrong?

DVD Shrink sometimes has difficulties when ripping Certain Original DVD's that is why I always use DVD Decrypter before I use DVD Shrink that way I don't have any problems ripping at all !!!
Just have a look at here :-
http://dvdshrink.info/dvd-decrypter.php
And as you can see even DVD Shrink recommend DVD Decrypter on there own Website but if you aint having any problems just carry on the way you are doing backups but let me assure you at some point you will wish you had listened to me !!!

There are problems with protection on some movies, thus DVD Decrypter is suggested, as Laffin stated above even SHRINK recommends it.

The procedure is definately to run DVD Decrypter first in FILE mode, then to use Shrink to fit it to a 4.7 GB DVD.

ok thanks guys, I'm gonna do it that way then, by the way, suppose there is no quality or compitibility improvement using this method?

I also posted something about max compression % in shrink 3 without visible quality loss, but no answers yet, you guys an idea?

thanks

Well, depending on the specific movie that you are trying to backup, not all "NEED" to utilize shrink, just use decrpyter and then you can back it up, if it will fit on a 4.7 GB DVD. The choice will be yours, and you will have to make the decision based on the "ripped" movie....

Well, DVD Decrypter can remove Macrovision, Region Encoding, and CSS encryption. This is very handy sometimes, especially if you want to play an imported DVD

Oh, I didn't think Shrink could do Macrovision as well. My mistake.
