Asustek Computer expects its notebook and motherboard shipments in October to beat its record monthly shipments in August, according to the company. The motherboard giant anticipates it will ship 500,000 notebooks and five million motherboards in October, up from 300,000-350,000 notebooks and 4.56 million motherboards that it shipped during the same period in 2004. Motherboards and PCs contributed to about 43% of Asustek’s revenues in the first half of this year, with a gross profit margin of 15% for the segment, according to the company’s finance report.
Starting from September, Asustek is looking to maintain monthly shipments of 4.5-5 million motherboards, since an equivalent chipset supply from Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) and VIA Technologies has been found to ease an Intel chipset shortage, company sources indicated. The Chinese-language
Economic Daily News reported on September 15 that the motherboard giant has selected chipsets from SiS for its entry-level Celeron M-based notebook series.
Asustek aims to ship four million notebooks this year and six million units in 2006. Market sources believe that the bulk of Asustek’s orders will come from OEM orders from Apple Computer and the its own-brand segment.
