I'm in NJ, USA and am looking to buy some 8x Verbatim DVD-Rs to feed to my NEC ND-3520a. However, it's been difficult trying to find out which one is which while shopping the online stores (supermediastore, meritline, rima). Most of the time they don't list the media code. This hasn't been much of a problem while shopping for Taiyo Yudens, but it is for Verbatims. Is there any way to find out for sure which is which (without buying them first)? Also, should I bother with the DataLifePlus Verbatims? Do the rest of the Verbatim line use the same dye as the DataLifePlus (metal azo)? Thanks!

All Verbatim DVD media sold in the US at speeds 8x and 16x use Mitsubishi's Azo dye (along with the DL media). There really is no such thing as DatalifePlus at retail anymore; only the unbranded bulk media available online carries that name.

You will also find this in "BULK" quantity at your local Sam's club, and they sell them at "online" prices.

So they're labeled Verbatim right on the packages at Sams? Is there anything labeled 'Verbatim' in 8x DVD-R that I should avoid (I've seen they're made in Taiwan, Singapore, China, India, etc.)? Or will all of the 8x be the MCC02RG20? Thanks!

Yes, they are labled Verbatim at Sams Club. They also carry CDR's as well in Verbatim. They are real Verbatim, never had a fake from there, and never had a problem with a disc from there.
